Should i get a Zune HD or the new iPod touch?

I know that the Zune doesn’t have as large a selection of iTunes, has that been a problem?
Are the applications on an iPod touch worth trading for screen quality?
Despite each individual difference, which is the best value overall?

The zune HD doesn’t compare to the iPod touch. because the billion use of the iPod touch. It may not have HD but at least it has more uses than a zune. toataly worth the non HD

i have an ipod touch 3g they are the best the screen is really good. cant imagine it possible to get much better. and the apps are very good. and the fact that you just tap on what you want makes usage much much easier/ fun. theres even an app txt plus lets you txt people with your ipod, its free.

as for the cons. the battery life still isnt great bt lasts long enough that i only need to charge when i go to bed. so as long as you dont use it constanly its fine. beside that the ipod touch is perfect.

i figured i might as well provide some counter-points to all these ipod touch comments, while the zune may not have as many apps it is clearly the winner when it comes to media and music discovery, the OLED screen means you will get darker darks and brighter brights and more battery life, you get 2.5 more hours of battery life watching videos than an ipod WITH a smaller battery inside. It is much easier to discover new music because while you are playing an artist you can look at tabs such as: an artist bio, some pictures of the artist, and similar artist. also the software has been rated much better than itunes.you can try it out from zune.net. zunes smart dj is similar to the genius dj but when you pair it with the zune pass (will describe later) it is unmatched because it also includes music YOU DONT OWN, not just your own music. the zune pass is a great option if you like it, for 14.99 a month you get unlimited music downloads and get to keep 10 songs for ever so at itunes prices youd actually just be paying 2.09 each month to rent songs, i use it its great. also with the zune hd you get the option to play media in 720p, the negative to this is you will have to buy the dock (either 50$ or 80$) ipod only does something queer like 576p which wouldnt really be worth it at all on a high def tv. the hd radio is yet another great music discovery feature with the tagging, if your in an area with wifi you can tag a song on your device and immediatly get the song (or if you have a zune pass just download the whole album). If you own an xbox 360 any content purchased on the zune video market place you will soon be able to move between the 360 console, your pc, and your zune hd. right now theres only 9 official apps and something like 35 unofficial apps you can upload through XNA game studio and microsoft visual studio. you can find them on sites like the one below. i know im forgetting one of my points but i think if you read this you know what id say you should purchase :) as you can see ive provided actual points to my argument, anyone ipod care to make some valid good points?

Depends. If you like paying 99 cents per song, go with an Ipod. If you want all the music you can download for 15 bucks a month (plus 10 free downloads to keep permanently), go with Zune. Zune is far superior than the Ipod in it’s battery life, processor, and screen. The HD radio is also very nice. Simply flag a song and it will download onto the device the next time you sync. I’m sure a lot of the Ipod “sheep” will tell you the Ipod is better, but the Ipod is losing marketshare for the first time. There are DEFINITELY better options than the failing ipod. Oh yeah… no reports of batteries exploding or the device burning people with the Zune either. Ipod users can’t say that. LOL

This is a very common question so I’ve created a special page to address it. Hopefully it will help you make a decision.

By all accounts, the new Zune is an improvement on the original, but I would suggest caution in buying one. Why? I think the main difference is track record and commitment. One thing that is difficult to argue is the longevity of an iPod. One, iPods, Touches included, last a long time. I still have a working iPod Photo, an iPod Touch original and now an iPhone. I am curious how that OLED screen holds up after a year of use. I could be surprised, but what I’ve read on OLED suggests it might not give you the three years of use I would expect in a media player. Two, Apple’s software updates will support that iPod you buy for a long time. It may cost you $5 to get new OS features, but at least you can get them. The Zune may be a fine media device, but it strikes me as a gamble. The Zune is not that old and already original owners have been left in the dust. As far as I know the new OS won’t run on previous models. That Zune OS looks good today, but will it look good in a year? Will it be discontinued because Microsoft wants to consolidate around a Windows Mobile device? You don’t know. I think you can be safe in assuming that iPod Touch will actually improve with age with each new OS update. Apple has 70,000 reasons to invest. And what will happen to all that ZunePass music if you later switch to an iPod? The amount you can legitimately download per month seems a fraction of what you are paying in. If you add in the apps and games, it becomes an even easier equation, to me. Personally, I also look at my iPod’s track record. I’ve bought 6 ipods over the last decade one ipod photo, one ipod touch(1G) and one iphone(3GS) for me, two ipod touches(2G) for my parents, and one ipod touch(2G) for my wife. They have all worked like gems.

i pods suck, i LOVE zunes, they are such a better deal and you get free stuff for it, like games, (awesome games btw) picture and videos. they are so far less complicated and fun to use. ipods break easier

the zune’s selection has never been a problem for me. the zune is expecting to get about 15 apps a day by the end of ’09, and over 10,000 by the end of 2010. providing you have some decent earbuds to listen with, the zune hd is a lot less expensive than the ipod touch, which is unoriginal and overhyped in my opinion. the zune is a bit slow at the moment, but firmware updates will help that. i hope i helped.
